About Share Bond, Founder of S.K.U.N.K.S.
Share Bond has specialized in the skunk since 1993 doing rescue, rehabilitation,
education, release studies, statistical research, handling nuisance wildlife
calls, and fighting for their protection.
Her education and experience is Animal Health Technology; working at a
veterinary clinic; wild animal behavior and training; wild orangutan behavior
and rehabilitation of ex-captive babies in Borneo with Birute Galdikas
of the Orangutan Fndn. Intl.; received training at international, national
and state wildlife rehabilitation symposiums, and several other animal
care expos; completed the IWRC Basic Wildlife Rehab 1AB Training; took
a certification seminar on "Techniques for Preventing and Solving Problems
with Wildlife".
Other experience - She was a docent for the American Cetacean Society Whalewatch
Program doing education and research; volunteered for several years at the Wildlife Waystation in the baby animal
trailer, fundraising, tours, outreach, etc.; and volunteered at Wolves
and Wildlife, and In The Company of Wolves; and volunteered for several Shambala Preserve fundraisers; and continues to volunteer at many animal advocates events and animal rescue facilities.
Share has taught seminars around the nation on "Rescue, Handling and Care
of Wild Skunks" (Animal Care Expo, Orlando-1997; Pasadena Humane Society-1999);
"Rearing Procedures and Release Criteria for the Striped Skunk" (NWRA,
Seattle-1998; IWRC, Tucson-1999); and teaches classes at the annual Animal Rights conferences (AR2007, Los Angeles). She is author of "Stinky Business: How To
Rehabilitate Skunks" (4th ed.); as well as other books; is producer of an educational video
"Rescue, Handling and Care of Wild Skunks"; and has been writer and editor of
the "P U Newsletter", "N.E.A.R. News" (newsletter for National Endowment for Animal Rights), and "Compassionate View" (newsletter for Protect R Wildlife), etc.
You may be wondering - WHY THE SKUNK? Share founded S.K.U.N.K.S. because
very little accurate information was available about the skunk, no one
was challenging the myths and contradictions regarding this species, and
no one was willing to come out from "underground to fight for the injustices
being done to this animal.
ABOUT S.K.U.N.K.S.
S.K.U.N.K.S. is an acronym for Society of Kind Understanding and Not
Killing Skunks, and is a problem-solving
organization dealing with wild and domestic skunks, and whose network rehabs and rehabilitates skunks around the nation and Canada.
Objectives and Goals are: 1) Obtain governmental approval of rabies vaccine for skunks; 2) Establish recognized quarantine period for skunks having proof of legal rabies shots; 3) Investigate further into more humane rabies testing on live animals; 4) Educate; 5) Gather accurate statistics to separate fact from myth; and 6) fight for the protection of skunks.
